Look… as the cat people in the room, it's hard for us to be too mad at the cat owner. We can imagine that it is not an easy thing to travel with cats on a plane. And still, there is right, and there is wrong. If you knew that you wanted to let your cat out during the flight, then you should have ordered another seat for them. You can't just let them roam around the plane, and you certainly can't let them sit on people who did not give you permission for that. For all you know, the person could have a serious cat allergy. Or maybe they just don't like the idea of a cat sitting on them, and that's fine too.

Was there a better, calmer way to handle the situation? Maybe. But their reaction is completely valid and justified. We, personally, would have been very happy to hang out with a cat during our flights, but maybe not. Maybe, on that particular day and time, we would not have been in the mood for ameowzing fluffy cuddles, and as unlikely as that is, we still would have preferred to have been asked before letting the feline climb all over us.

Travelling with cats is not easy, but it should be done right - for everyone involved.
Although we have never taken a cat on a plane, we can imagine how difficult it must be. Just taking our cat to the vet - having to take it out of the house, get it in our cat, and going the fifteen minutes that it takes us to get there is a challenge that is difficult both for us and for the cat. So, going up on a plane with our little fluffball… we cannot even imagine. We would hope that if we had to, the people around us would be considerate of said difficulty, but we don't actually expect it. Because… people.
That means that you have to travel with your cat right, which means, we would think obviously, not letting your cat out on the plane without preparing for the consequences. The cat might panic and start running around or do their business where they should not. Or… the cat might be extra affectionate and sit on someone. Doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world. Cat people like us would even welcome it, but that is not true for everyone. And it was certainly not true for the passenger in today's story.
